Three Horses
Melbourne
Saddle up, this bar is making sherry cool again
The concept for Three Horses originated from the founders' travels through Spain and their time spent in traditional sherry bars. While the fortified wine has long carried a reputation as a drink reserved for older generations down under, Three Horses galloped into Melbourne's bar scene with a clear mission: to make sherry fashionable again.
Beyond its white-brick exterior, the narrow, 45-seat bar area is cosy and effortlessly cool thanks to low, warm lighting and a resident DJ spinning records each service. The room is centred around a long L-shaped counter, behind which hangs a colourful mural depicting three horses mid-gallop – one for each of its founders. Its staff are equally stylish, dressed in white shirts embroidered with the bar's equine logo on the front and the slogan 'where sherry reigns' across the back, in case its intentions weren't clear enough.
The drinks follow much of the same philosophy as those at Caretaker's Cottage. Expect a tight, well-honed line-up of laid-back creations crafted by a warm, highly seasoned team of bartenders with a remarkable eye for detail. Sherry naturally forms the backbone of the bar's drinks offering, with a dedicated menu featuring pours ranging from traditional Fino and Pedro Ximénez to expressions from new-wave Aussie producers. The venue's fondness for fortified wine also extends to its cocktail list, best experienced in its signature serve, the Jabberwock – a martini variant finished with a splash of Fino. Not in the mood for sherry? Try the Mango G&T, made with house-made sorbet and served in a stainless-steel coupe.
In just over a year since opening, Three Horses has leapt onto the global bar scene, landing at No.84 in the extended 51-100 ranking of The 50 Best Bars 2026 and earning the Campari One to Watch Award 2026.
