A hotel for all seasons
What's the story: Patina Osaka is a 20-storey hotel with 221 rooms and suites, a one-minute walk from Osaka Castle Park. Its design draws on kisetsukan – the Japanese sense of the changing seasons – positioning itself as an urban sanctuary in the heart of the city, with every material from warm wood to hand-finished plaster meant to carry Osaka's legacy of craft into its rooms.
Rooms worth knowing: Rooms start at 50-square metres, larger than most hotels in the city. Categories run from the 63-square-metre Premier Room and 75-square-metre Junior Suite up to the 103-square-metre Deluxe Suite, which has its own living room, the 127-square-metre Urban Suite and the 233-square-metre penthouse Patina Suite, fitted with its own turntable and sound system for visiting audiophiles.
On the menu: P72 draws on Japan's 72 micro-seasons for its seasonal menu. Barin serves teppanyaki in tribute to the samurai who once guarded Osaka Castle, Iñaki is a Basque grill and wood-fired restaurant, and Nijiri is a tea room for sweets and savoury bites. Sonata Bar & Lounge pairs pintxo-style snacks and cocktails with views of the castle and hosts a Friday-night DJ set called Patina Sounds. The Listening Room by Ojas, on the top floor, hosts a daily sunrise 'Morning Soundscapes' session and is also available for private booking.
Pets included: Patina Osaka is pet-friendly, welcoming up to two dogs of 15 kilograms or under per stay, with a morning stroll through Osaka Castle Park among the on-site amenities. The kitchens work with local farmers on a farm-to-table basis, part of a wider sustainability programme that also focuses on minimising food waste.
