Head chef and owner Zaiyu Hasegawa has a reputation for dishing out welcome hugs before serving playful delicacies. Take the signature mushroom-stuffed Dentucky Fried Chicken (served in a fast-food takeaway box bearing Hasegawa's face) for instance, or the decadent foie gras wafer sandwiches, as well as salads of deep fried, pickled, grilled and raw vegetables garnished with the odd edible ant and a grinning emoji carrot slice. Hasegawa notes his reinvention of kaiseki – elegant meals comprising many small, artistic dishes using seasonal produce – is designed to put fun back into the Japanese culinary tradition. You'll leave grinning like an emoji carrot. Enjoy an eclectic assortment of Italian wines and Japanese sake with the alcoholic pairing. Call to book as soon as you can: reservations open eight weeks in advance and are only taken over the phone.
